James Heilpern is the Founder and President of the Judicial Education Institute. He also serves as Counsel at Schaerr | Jaffe, LLP, a Supreme Court litigation boutique based in Washington, D.C. Among other matters, he was part of the legal team that represented the state of Georgia in Texas v. Pennsylvania, et al., successfully persuading the Supreme Court to dismiss Texas’ last ditch effort to overturn the results of the 2020 Presidential Election.  He also serves as an Alternate Associate Justice on the Oglala-Sioux Tribal Supreme Court.

In the words of one prominent jurist, Heilpern is the “nation’s leading authority on training judges in corpus linguistics,” having provided judicial education courses to hundreds of judges around the country. He also previously served as a Senior Fellow at BYU Law School, where he helped direct the school’s Law & Corpus Linguistics Project, and as Research Fellow at the Georgetown Center for the Constitution. He was also a law clerk to the Honorable Edith Clement on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the Honorable Robert H. Cleland on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
